MESSAGE FROM WAYNE
****************************

Hello my loves,

I was recently asked, "What is your philosophy of life?"

My immediate response was - "Breathe"

The questioner assumed from this response that I had misunderstood her question so she repeated it a little differently - "What do you think is the best way to live?" she asked.

"BREATHE!" I repeated.

Everyone laughed but I was not making a joke. I have no interest in philosophy or spirituality as an intellectual chess game. To my mind, a philosophy of life must be completely practical - it must have meaning in the office and the bedroom, the church and the night club. Thus, the Living Teacing is pointing to this most basic of human functions - to live is to breathe. But everyone knows they are not the creators or even the masters of their breath, it literally has a life of its own. And since the breath is (except for certain yogic practices) immune from the claims of the ego, it is generally of little interest. It is JUST there.

The Living Teaching proposes a look with fresh eyes at this breath that is living us, animating us, giving us the power of choice, thought, feeling and action. This breath is an open invitation to the reality of What IS...perhaps you will find that this is the moment you walk through.

With much love,
Wayne

A Buddha's Babble - Ramesh S. Balsekar

Aham-Brahma-Asmi---I am Brahman
Tat-Twam-Asi---THAT You Are

These statements---the mahavakyas---have caused considerable confusion among Indian spiritual seekers because their inner meaning has not been comprehended.

Every twam is not Tat: every 'you' are not THAT. THAT is every 'you', THAT will always be there without 'you', but 'you' cannot be there without THAT.

Unless this is very clearly understood, every seeker will want to be 'one with THAT' and will, therefore, be frustrated. What is to be very clearly understood is that every human being, in his daily living, must continously remain connected to THAT Source and never be disconnected from it.

The individual entity---the Ego---gets disconnected from the Source whenever he considers himself or the 'other' as the doer of some action, and blames and condemns him for some action.

The connection finally ends when the body dies and the Ego no longer exists as a separate entity.

To remain continuously connected to the Source in one's daily living means doing whatever is necessary to be done in any situation as if one is the doer---and, therefore, to witness whatever is happening as something that is precisely supposed to happen according to the Cosmic Law, without regrets about the past, without any complaints in the present, without any expectation in the future, and, importantly, without condemning anyone for anything---neither himself nor the other.

Enlightened Living---Ramesh Balsekar

It stands to reason that if you want something desperately you would take great pains to find out what it did for those who have 'got' it. So if you desire Enlightenment, it would make abundant sense to at least check out what the 'Enlightened' ones have to say about the state of self-realization. That is what "Enlightened Living" does for you.

In this book, Ramesh Balsekar arguably the most renowned exponent of the ancient philosophy of Advaita today and the author of 30 well-known books, presents you a clear perspective on the self-realized state, in his hallmark lucid style.

If you have believed the sage to be a glorified vegetable, passionless and neutered to all pleasure and all pain, if you have believed that he is in a never-ending state of cocooned bliss or if you have believed that there is some-'one' out there to enjoy that 'blissful' state, this book shows you just how mistaken you are.

To make its point, "Enlightened Living" presents an impressive array of Masters---from Adi Shankara to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, from Ashtavakra to Ramana Maharshi, from Jnaneshwara to Nisargadatta Maharaj and Sengtsan---to share with you, in the simplest terms possible, the reality of the state of self-realization. Pointers are used, insights are bestowed and cobwebs vigorously dusted away till what you are left with is a deeply satisfying clarity---which may or may not be intellectual.

NEW BOOK about NISARGADATTA
****************************************

The Last Days Of Nisargadatta Maharaj - S. K. Mullarpattan
In Commemoration Of The 25th Anniversary Of Nisargadatta Maharaj's 'Mahasamadhi'

With 6 Rare Picture Cards of Maharaj.

Thirteen days after the great Advaita sage Nisargadatta Maharaj took 'Mahasamadhi' in 1981, S. K. Mullarpattan, his beloved disciple and longest-serving English interpreter, gave a momentous speech at the condolence meet. In moving words, he recounted incidents from the last days of Maharaj, and the indelible impact the great sage left upon anyone who came into contact with him.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Maharaj's 'Mahasamadhi', we bring you the evocative speech made by Mullarpattan. One that recreates the magnetism of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj; the dramatic turn events took during this time; the loving and attentive care which his family and followers always provided; and, above all, Maharaj's own detached attitude towards his final days, till he breathed his last.

Accompanying this Commemorative Booklet are 6 rare Picture Cards. They capture Nisargadatta Maharaj in various moods for his loving disciples and followers, the world over.

A LIVING GEM FROM RAMESH (never before published)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After the end of one of the talks in California, one of the visitors said to me, "This is my last day, at least in this session. I am leaving this afternoon. When I go home, I shall be asked about you and what you talked about. They will think I am crazy if I tell them that you do not put on any robes, that you speak perfect English, that you were a bank president before you retired, and that your entire teaching is based on one truth---that the entire manifestation and its functioning is an entirely impersonal and self-generated process, and that the sentient beings are merely the instrument (without any volition) through which this process takes place."

I laughed and told him that what he said reminded me of a story I had come across some time ago: As a patient was about to leave a doctor's consultation room, the new patient spun around and shot the doctor a quizzical glance. The doctor asked her what was the matter, and she replied, "I don't know. I arrived five minutes early for my appointment. You took me right away. You spent a lot of time with me. I understood every word of your instructions, and, what is more, I can even read this prescription you wrote. Are you a real doctor?"
