Java™ updates: The chat room is a Java™ application. We recommend using the latest update on on your computer. Many computers ask permission before updating, and we suggest you approve these updates. You can download Java™ free and learn more about it at java.com.

The Chat room functionality is tested everyday and most users connect easily. If you can't open the chat, please START by updating Java™ and your web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari). Update Java™ at java.com.
If you still can't open the Chat room, please read the following troubleshooting information before emailing the webmaster.
Make sure your browser will accept cookies, and that Java™ is enabled in your browser options.
We use a Java applet for the chatroom called AddOnChat. It was updated November 17, 2011, and does work properly. However if you can't load the chat, and:
- you see a small broken link icon, an empty space, or a link to AddonChat: you need to install or reinstall Java
- you see a solid gray box instead of the chat room: you need to clear your browser's cache (see below for instructions)
- you see a red X image where the chat room should be, or it says applets won't run: review the information on the Java website http://www.java.com/en/download/help/redximage.xml
- you havea Macintosh computer with OS-9 or earlier: AddonChat is not supported. AddonChat runs best on OS X using Firefox, MSIE, or Safari. We encourage you to use the Software Update utility provided in OS-X to ensure that you're using the very latest version of Java. OS-X 10.4.7 or better is strongly recommended.
To Clear Your Browser's Cache
In rare circumstances, you may need to clear your browser's cache to resolve a connection issue, or to ensure that you're seeing the latest update to a web site. If clearing your browser's cache does not resolve your problem, rebooting your computer is often recommended.
To clear your browser's cache using Firefox
Click on Tools from your browser's main menu
Select Clear Recent History...
Ensure that Cache is checked
Click the Clear Now button
Shutdown all open instances of your web browser and restart
To clear your browser's cache using Microsoft Internet Explorer
Click on Tools from your browser's main menu.
Select Internet Options
Under the General tab, click Delete Files... in the Browsing History files
section.
Ensure that Temporary Internet Files is checked
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.
To clear your browser's cache using Safari
Click on Safari from the main menu.
Click Empty Cache...
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.
To clear your browser's cache using Opera
Click on Tools from your browser's main menu.
Select Delete private data...
Click the Delete button
